RETRIX is a general-purpose GNU/Linux distribution for the x86-64 architecture. It is not based on any specific distribution, instead it pulls inspiration from different ones as well as FreeBSD. RETRIX was conceived in response to a lack of direction from distributions that protest systemd and universal packaging formats. Instead of complaining about what systemd treads on next, RETRIX provides an alternate vision for the GNU/Linux desktop and server. RETRIX gets its name because its a retrospective Linux distribution. RETRIX looks at what made early distributions successful when Linux was once considered a serious competitor to Windows and then advances these features with modern technologies. Features of RETRIX include (but may change):
I would like RETRIX to be as vanilla as possible in terms of the desktops, but as a fan of old school desktop design I wouldn't mind having a RETRIX theme and icon set like how Mint has their own theme and icon set. I would also like to learn Blender to create some 3D artwork for the project.
Rux is the mascot for RETRIX. He is a cyberpunk penguin created with Stable Diffusion.
